Prayer Link
Please remember the following churches on the dates given
August
Sunday 24th
Brechin: Please pray for the church and its pastor, Rev Jon Bergen. Broxburn: Please pray for the church and its pastor, Rev Frank Murray. Sunday 31st
Buckhaven: Rev Peter Carr. We praise God for new people coming on a regular basis over the past months. As our Pastor settles in after 1 year we are grateful for his enthusiasm to further the work.We pray that work of the Step Out team will continue and that as a result many will be discipled.
Christmas 2007 gave us the opportunity to distribute 1300 calendars around the district. It is our prayer this year to repeat this venture. The calendars give a monthly text, effectively placing the scripture into every home. They also bear the Church details allowing anyone in need to contact us.
Please pray for the continuing outreach work into the community, ongoing children's work and the new proposed venture of a bargain thrift shop running simultaneously with the Friday coffee morning.
Buckie: Rev Vince MacDougall. Buckie Baptist Church is in good heart, with our pastor Rev. Vincent MacDougall at the helm. As a fellowship we are excited at the prospect of opening a community-based project in one of our local housing estates, which will give us new opportunities to share God's love in a practical way with people in their own community, rather than expecting them to come to us. Please continue to remember BBC in your prayers as we move out in faith to this exciting new chapter.
Sunday 7th
Burra Isle: Rev Derek Conabeer. Of particular concern to us is our large group of 'adherents' some of whom come to our services regularly and some very occasionally. Pray that these folk may make a commitment to Christ or deepen the commitment they already have. During the past couple of years our small community has been rocked by a number of personal tragedies. Please pray that people in the Isle will be led to think of eternal issues through what has happened.
Cambuslang: Rev Brian Graham. In an effort to engage more effectively with the local community, we have recently held two outreach events in the Main Street. We talked to people and handed out 100 "More to Life" DVDs, Christian literature and an invitation to attend an Alpha course. Tommy the clown, alias Clownbo, provided an attraction for the children as he modelled balloons for them. At the second event held at Cambuslang’s summer festival we also had the puppeteers from East Mains Baptist. Pray that all who were reached will respond positively to what they heard or have since viewed or read. Pray for our Action Group and church fellowship as we continue to seek new ways to convey the unchanging Gospel message to an ever-changing society.
Sunday 14th
Carluke: Vacant. During this time of vacancy we would like you to remember us as we seek God's earthly shepherd for our flock. A recent Consultation Process has given us plenty to do and we thank God for His leading and inspiration to many folks who have become involved with its implementation. We assure you that we are continuing His work during this time and we would value Prayer not only for our Church, but for the Townsfolk as we seek to show them Jesus.
Cleland. Please pray for the church, currently vacant.
Sunday 21st
Coatbridge: Rev Gilmour Callander. Give thanks for the Champion’s Challenge holiday club held last month: for the children who attended and for families we made contact with at the Sunday service and BBQ. Pray for all the people we have contact with in the community, that God might direct us to ways through which we can deepen our relationship with them. Pray for the merger between Coatbridge and Rosehall High Schools and our involvement in the chaplaincy team at the school. Thank God for the opportunity through assemblies and S.U. groups to talk to the pupils about Jesus.Pray for our worship group and for the way God used them at a recent funeral service in the churc and pray for us as we wrestle with issues that being a small congregation brings but thank God for the spirit of expectation and anticipation that exists in the church - that God will not only do a new thing but that Jesus will build his church here.
Colonsay: Pastoral Overseer, Rev Alex Rodger. The church here is possibly unique in Scotland in having had no resident minister for over 50 years yet it's door remains open, and a witness is maintained.
We give thanks for:- the simple little building, which holds a place in the hearts of all Islanders; for those who visit and work to help maintain the building, and for the faithful work of Rev A Rodger, our Overseer; for all who visit the manse and conduct our services while on holiday - and for the 'brave-hearted souls' who visit during the winter months; for the visit of our link missionary, Lynne Brown, who told us of her work in Angola, and for the visit of Rev Bill Slack in August.
We request prayer for:- our efforts to be faithful and carry on the witness here, working closely with the local Church of Scotland - and also that God will raise up others who will be prepared to continue the work. Also remember the sick and the elderly in the community. We have recently learned that one of the Church of Scotland's members has died suddenly. Although elderly, Margaret Walker had been a real stalwart and her passing leaves both churches much poorer. She had been very involved in the setting up of our working together on the Island. Obviously this creates a need - even greater than before, for others to become involved, and for the rest of us to seek to follow in her footsteps.
Sunday 28th
Cowdenbeath: Please pray for the church, now vacant.
Crieff: Rev Richard Tuckley. We give thanks for a restructured leadership team of deacons and elders working with our pastor. Please pray for continuing settlement of this team so that we can refocus away from our internal structures towards reaching our community.
We are grateful to God for a significant opportunity of ministry during the annual Crieff Highland Games day on 17th August. By holding our services in the hall, the church was opened to the public with the offer of free refreshments. Around 400 people made use of the opportunity and we were able to have some good conversations following their enquiries about why we should be doing such a thing!
Please pray for the work among the youth of our town led by Robert McDonald. The work within the church over the last year has been succesful in creating a core group of committed young people. Robert has now taken on the leadership role at Logos, an independent youth work in the town. Join us in praying for a new chapter of cooperation between ourselves and Logos.
Fellowship of Prayer
Sheddocksley Baptist Church.
Give thanks for steady development as we grow a healthy Christian community. We recently launched a new Street Football project in partership with the YMCA and this is connecting with over 50 young people. Pray that we will be able to develop some really positive relationships.
Our next initiative is to launch a Community Cafe in the Autumn to create a gathering place in the neighbourhood. We have a lot of sheltered housing nearby and many young families in the locality. Pray that we will be able to generate the finance and create an effective team to establish what could be a very fruitful outreach. Stephen Hibbard, Pastor.
Roberta Hope, our Communications Coordinator here in Resource House is back at work full time. She is due for a further check up this month and remains MOST grateful to all those who have prayed and are still praying for her since her cancer diagnosis.
